The main difference is in application technique and final result. The balayage is applied freehand with a "brushing" movement that creates gradual and natural transition. Traditional highlights, instead, use aluminum foils and create sharper contrast between lightened strands and base color. Balayage offers a more natural appearance, less evident regrowth and requires less maintenance compared to highlights.
